I was a fan of this software program and during 2010, I started learning about Data warehousing. There were very less tools in the market about data migration. when you learn the ETL tools , you will know about how to use the database, how to access the database. You will need to learn about any database like Oracle 11g or MongoDB or Mysql. You will about connecting to the FTP server and retrieving data from the company server.

The domain sector can be either retail, banking or pharma or it can be anything. There will be huge chunks of data like sales or attendance or something like that. Your job would be

1. Extract the data from source database

2. Load the data into another software say like reporting tool

3. Sometimes you will have to process the data ( either add or remove columns or rows)

Imagine the excel sheet with 1000 rows and 1000 columns, you will have to alter them and it's possible manually. Hence we use the software tool - Informatica Powercenter which is a data migration tool.
